“They laughed when I
said ‘I’m going to take control of my life’ - until
now…”
Did you ever feel like a puppet with other
people pulling the strings? Then you know how I must have felt back in
1962. I was working for a prestigious advertising firm in New York
City. I know this is going to sound crazy to you, but what I really wanted
to do at the time was buy a fishing boat and become captain of my own
life.
"I told them 'I’m going to take control of my own
life.'"
Of course, they laughed. Society has
conditioned us to march in lockstep conformity. Our ideas, thoughts, and
actions become conditioned reflexes, disallowing any original motivation to live
the life we really want to live.
"How do people get so
imprisoned?"
Because much like the clothes we wore as
children, the beliefs we wear are given to us by others. Threadbare ideas,
impractical philosophies and conditioned, force-fed beliefs led us like
sheep. Thus, the ideal life eludes us and we remain imprisoned and
afraid. This is why you need a practical philosophy of life! To live
the life of your dreams you must first understand yourself and your world.
"It wasn’t long before I was cruising the waters off the
coast of New England."
The day was perfect. Blue sky, puffy
white clouds, salty, crisp air – and then it happened. My engine conked
out. I was bouncing around like a cork as whitecaps began to form.
Soon I was drifting dangerously close to the rocky shoreline. Then,
just before it was too late, the engine came to life. Relieved, I was once
again motoring back to the little cove I moored my boat in. It was a
classic lesson – never allow your motivation to die and lose sight of the
destination. A destination you choose for your own life, not a course
directed by others.
"You and how you live
matters."
Loving life and truly loving life – your
life requires that you know how to fully operate and negotiate the shoals,
reefs, and rocks. As I wrote in Chapter One, “If you have not consciously
adopted a practical philosophy to govern your behavior and decisions, then, as
evidenced by the untold grief and travail of millions who are shipwrecked in
spirit and hopelessly adrift in a sea of vagueness, you need a practical
philosophy. You need it as much as a drowning person needs a life
preserver.”
"This means understanding the world around you
and making sense of it all."
In Chapter Three, we’ll investigate
"Free Will or Fate?" What do you use as a compass? What do you actually
tell others by the things you say? The mental concepts you hold have great
bearing on what happens to you. In the Practical Philosophy Course, I’m
going to reveal how you can avoid physically damaging your brain by avoiding
certain patterns of thought. So much has been said and written about
intuition, but few people have been able to separate it from inappropriate
emotions. You’ll learn what “valid” intuition actually is, versus what is
false and dangerous.
"Can what you believe hurt you?
Absolutely!"
That’s why it is vital for you to explore
Chapter Seven, “Beliefs Verses Reality.” Next, we'll entertain the
meaning of human goodness. Do you realize that countless people have been
harmed beyond repair by misunderstanding authentic goodness? There are
many acts of false goodness that are actually evil.
As we go along
you’ll begin to understand how virtue will protect you from danger and is key to
physical survival. It’s at this point that we'll explore the ultimate
question, “The Meaning of Life.” Since, there are so many delusionary and
convoluted ideas about life, this chapter will direct you safely into port.
"Everyone talks about being successful – but what actually
is success?"
You’ll learn more in this one chapter
alone that in a library filled with success books and courses. Next, we’ll
investigate why you’re attracted to certain things, be they people, places, or
items in the chapter entitled, “What Makes Beauty
Beautiful?”
Chapter Thirteen will give you a new way
to view your physical body in “Physicality and Physique."
And now, what about all that “ego bashing”
that religion and so-called pious people engage in? In
Chapter Fifteen, we take a closer look at what pride actually is,
and what it isn’t. And holy horrors, that you actually seek rations
pleasures. In this chapter you’ll explore “The Standard of
Pleasures.”
Chapter Seventeen is really loaded, so
fasten your seat belt as you read and listen to “What to Make of
Death?”
It’s also important to have a life of
balance, so I’ve presented “Society or Seclusion” for your pleasure. In
Chapter Nineteen, you’re going to learn about “The Art of Contentment” – no
one should be without this ability. Chapter Twenty ties it all
together with “Spirituality Isn’t an Achievement.” Since the entire
religious world thinks it is, this should be quite interesting for you to
contemplate.
"It would have been wonderful if I had known
and concluded these things when I was in my twenties."
Alas, that’s tens of thousands of books
and decades of living ago. The practical philosophy of life is an
accumulation of the wisdom of thousands of years, concentrated and simplified so
you can avail yourself of the life of your dreams. And you can begin to
live that way today. Yes, they laughed when I said “I’m going to take
control of my own life!” until they saw what one person can accomplish with a
practical philosophy. When might be the best time for you to cut your own
strings and free yourself to live the life you’ve always
wanted?
While I realize this is not for the timid or fearful, who
allow others to do their thinking for them, if you really, really want to be the
captain of your own life, then act right now! We’ll rush this vital course into
your hands right away. But you must act before supplies
vanish.
Would you grab a life preserver if you were
hopelessly adrift? Then you already made your
decision.
